Inside Lahore Fort Loknayak Jaya Prakash Narayan (JP), as an Indian Socialist Freedom Fighter, was actively involved in freedom struggle against the British imperialism. He carried out underground movement against the British and suffered traumatic experiences of the British brutality. He was able to escape from the imprisonment of the British also but later caught at Amristar and put behind the bar inside the Lahore Fort. This diary is a historical record of torturous experiences of such a freedom fighter, who lived for the people of the country. He was one among those who never aspired for power and remained with the people for their cause.
After independence, J.P. found a silver lining in Gandhian Movement for the change in property relation in order to inject dynamism in the process of development and change. He was attracted to the Bhoodan Movement, which made its presence felt in the country within a few years of its emergence under the dynamic leadership of Acharya Vinoba Bhave, who took initiatives of peaceful land reforms.
The people of India have decided to celebrate birth centenary year of JP during the year 2001-2002 as their mark of respect to their great leader. The Sarva Seva Sangh has resolved to celebrate birth centenary of its great leader, Loknayak through various activities such as, conferences, mobilisation of masses for participatory democracy, publishing books, etc. Besides many other activities in the memory of J.P. the Sarva Seva Sangh has decided to reprint this rare document: prison’s note-Inside the Lahore Fort, of a great warrior of freedom struggle, which was first published by the Socialist Block Centre, Madras in 1959.
We feel privileged to reprint this book to mark this occasion in the honour of Loknayak, whose ideas and messages have no time bound towards reconstruction of non-violent social order through participatory democracy in order to install face to face community on Gandhian lines. This book gives an insight about the brutal face of imperialism, which has now become more aggressive than ever before, moreover, this document is a source of inspiration and reinforcement for the sacrifice and courage to wage a consolidated non-violent struggle against the conspiracy of globalisation of the capitalist exploitation in the era of changing face of deceptive imperialistic regime.
