According to Ayurveda health does not can note be a negative approach of keeping the body free from diseases but a positive one enjoying on uninterrupted sense of physical mental and spiritual happiness it is there fore a ‘way of living’.

Man should live for a minimum span of 100 years. He should not be deprived of vigour with normal reflection of senses and vitality even in old age and to achieve this one should follow the rules of Ayurveda. The goal of Ayurveda is the maintenance of health and to treat the diseased state. Health is defined very clearly in Ayurveda as a well balanced metabolism (Agni, Dosha-dhatu-Mala samya) with a happy state of being, with the senses and the mind (prasanns-atma-Indriya-manas). The harmonious, homeostatic functin of body-mind and soul indicates health, and disease is the imbalance of the integrated functioning of the body, and vitiation of dosha are due to indulgence in various improper habits and acts including genetic factors.

Diseases are broadly classified in two catagories as NIJA means due to internal factors and AGANTUJA means diseases caused by external factors, both vitiate the doshas, in nija groups doshas get aggravated in beginning and symptoms develops later, and in agantuja groups doshas aggravated subsequently. Disturbance in the equilibrium of doshas play major role in disease manifestation. There are three gunas as satva, rajas and tamas, which are influenced by factors and risk factors. Doshas circulate all over the body and are affected by any change in environment, climatic, seasonal day and night stages of life etc. There aggravation is natural and the body is capable to adopt such minor changes and no disease is produced. The disease is only produced by crossing the natural limit by ignoring the rules, regimen, by injury by stress, strain or by adharma.
