Description

Rudraksa In ancient Indian texts, biomedical application of various herbs, plants and plant-products has been described in detail. Modern Ayurveda has exploited some of the herbs and plant products following the ancient guidelines for their various bio-medical applications, but many of them are yet to be explored, identified and studied for their human uses. Among the studied ones, little is known about the biomedical applications of Rudraksa beads in general and their various mukhis in particular. Modern studies on the medical uses of different mukhis of Rudraksas merely present the colourful interpretation of Puranic versions, unscientific method for their identification and characterizaion, and are mainly concerned with their oral medicinal uses. There is no study dealing with physicochemical properties of Rudraksa proper of different mukhis that have bean attributed in Siva Purana to produce various biological effects merely by virtue of contacts with human body in the form of their rosary, or chanting mantras of them.

This study presents a detailed analysis of physico-chemical, magnetic and electrical properties of all the fourteen mukhis of Rudraksa beads for their identification and characterization. The analysis and synthesis suggests that Puranic versions are based on scientific discoveries of ancient saints and sages. The book should prove to be a valuable companion to laymen as well as specialists.
